A happy Christmas to everyone marking it today.

The twelve dishes are designed for a table with three generations at it. This year a great many households cooked all twelve for four people, because the grandparents were on a screen and the cousins were not travelling.

Nobody reduced the number of dishes. I asked several people about this and the answers were all versions of the same thing: you make the twelve, that is what it is.

There is something in that worth noticing. The form was kept intact for a year when it could not be filled, on the assumption that it would be filled again.
