Constitution Day, 28 June 2026
A greeting for Constitution Day, thirty years on from the text.
Thirty years is long enough for a constitution to stop being a document people remember being written and to become simply the background against which everything happens.
That transition is the real achievement. A text becomes constitutional not when it is adopted but when the people arguing under it have stopped treating it as provisional.
What should be in it, and what should change, is a conversation for the people it governs, and it is a good sign that they are still having it.
Congratulations on Constitution Day.
