Easter 2026

The paska, the basket, the greeting exchanged in the same words as always. Twenty-two Easters here, and the form has not changed at all.

Christ is risen. A peaceful Easter to your household.

My twenty-second here. I have written about this day several times on this site and I notice that I keep returning to the same observation, which suggests it is the true one: the form does not change.

Whatever the year has been — a currency crisis, a pandemic, a war — the baking happens, the basket is filled and covered, the greeting is exchanged in the words it has always been exchanged in, and somebody hands you food you did not ask for and will not be permitted to refuse.

I was a guest at that table before I understood a word of what was said around it. I am still, in some sense, a guest. Twenty-two years of being fed by people who never once made me feel like one is a debt I do not expect to repay and am glad to carry.

Christ is risen.
