Constitution Day, 28 June 2013
A greeting for Constitution Day, from someone who reads it as a guest.
A country that writes its own rules is doing something quite recent in historical terms and quite hard to sustain.
The text says what the state is, how it is chosen, what it owes and where it stops. Whether all of that works on any given Tuesday is a separate matter, and one for people here to settle among themselves.
My interest is simpler. I have signed contracts in this country, and the reason a contract means anything is that there is a legal order behind it that begins with this document.
