Day of Unity, 22 January 2008
A unity day greeting, and a note on the bridge the chain is usually formed across.
A good Day of Unity to everyone marking it.
The chain is often formed across a bridge over the Dnipro, and the choice of location is not accidental. The river runs the length of the country and has been used for a very long time as shorthand for a division between its banks.
Standing on the bridge holding hands is an argument about that shorthand, made physically rather than verbally, by people who mostly could not tell you they are making an argument.
It is a considerably better way to hold an opinion than a speech, and it takes about four minutes.
A good day to you and yours.
