Easter 2020

The Easter of empty churches. Baskets were blessed at a distance, families met on screens, and the paska was baked anyway.

Christ is risen. A peaceful Easter, in a strange year.

This one fell in the first weeks of the pandemic, and nothing about it was normal. Churches held services with almost nobody inside. Baskets were blessed outdoors at a distance, or left in rows on a cloth and blessed collectively, or not blessed at all. Families that had gathered every year of their lives met on a screen.

The baking still happened. Priests who could not fill a church broadcast from an empty one. People who could not travel to their parents sent photographs of the table.

I have written before that a tradition is for the years when you cannot do it properly. This was another of those, in a different way from 2009, and the same thing held.

A peaceful Easter to your household, wherever they are this year.
