Easter, 8 April 2007
An Easter greeting, and a note on the week before it, which is where most of the work happens.
Christ is risen. A blessed Easter to everyone marking it today.
The visible part of this holiday is one morning. The actual holiday is the week before it, and I have watched enough of them now to know the sequence: the house is cleaned properly, which is not the same as cleaned; the eggs are dyed; the baking starts on the Thursday and does not entirely stop.
By the time anyone stands outside a church at dawn, four days of work are already behind them.
That is true of most things that look effortless in a culture that is not your own. The morning is the visible tip of a week you did not see.
A peaceful day to your family, and thanks to whoever did the week.
