Easter, 2 May 2021
An Easter greeting for a second spring of restrictions, and what the basket did instead of the crowd.
Christ is risen. A blessed Easter to everyone marking it today.
This is the second Easter under restrictions and by now people have worked out how to do it. Baskets blessed in shifts, or outdoors, or in the churchyard with everyone standing further apart than they would like. Some parishes simply moved the whole thing outside and discovered it works rather well in early May.
What did not change is the baking. If anything there was more of it, because a household that cannot gather in a large group still makes the same amount of paska and then has to distribute it — which meant a great deal of food travelling between apartments this weekend.
A tradition that adapts its logistics without changing its content is in good health.
A peaceful day to your family, and good weather for whoever is queueing outside.
