Holodomor Remembrance Day, 24 November 2018

Part of the work of remembrance here has been archival: opening registers, reading village records, assembling lists of names in places where the record was deliberately thin.

It is slow and unglamorous work, done largely by local historians and volunteers, and it is the reason this is a history with names rather than only a number.

A number is easy to argue about. A name is harder to set aside.

This evening, a candle. Eternal memory to those who were lost, and thanks to the people who spent years making sure they could be counted.
