Knowledge Day, 1 September 2013
A word for the teachers, on the day the flowers arrive.
I have spent enough time around schools here to notice that the teacher standing in the courtyard this morning will teach the same class for several years running.
That arrangement puts a great deal on one person. It also means the teacher knows which child has had a difficult summer without needing to be told, and acts accordingly.
Whatever else is discussed about education, that continuity is worth defending.
Happy Knowledge Day to the pupils, and my respect to the teachers holding the flowers.
