New Year 2015
A New Year at the end of a year that changed a great deal, written without any attempt to summarise it.
Happy New Year.
I am not going to characterise the year that just ended. Everyone who lived through it has their own account and mine is not more useful than anybody else's.
What I will note is that the fireworks happened. In courtyards, at midnight, the same as every year I have been here. I remember standing outside and thinking that the persistence of an ordinary custom through an extraordinary year is not denial. It is the opposite. It is a statement that the ordinary is what people intend to return to.
A good year to your household, and to everyone who has had a hard one.
