Unity Day, 22 January 2019
A greeting for the day, and a note on the human chain.
The custom of marking this day with a chain of people holding hands across a bridge is one I have always liked, because it cannot be done by an institution.
A parade requires organisers. A chain requires enough individual people to turn up in the cold and stand next to a stranger, and if they do not, there is no chain.
That is a fairly honest annual measurement of something, and it is taken in the open air.
Congratulations on Unity Day to everyone marking it, on a bridge or otherwise.
