International Women's Day, 8 March 2014
A short message on a day arriving in a spring nobody was ready for.
This is not a year for a cheerful message, so I will keep it to what can be said simply.
To the women I work with, and to those I do not: this has been an exhausting winter and the spring has not started easily. A great many of you have been holding a household together while the news ran continuously in another room, keeping children to a routine, and going to work regardless.
That work does not appear anywhere and it is what has kept a great many families steady.
A quiet day to all of you, and take care of yourselves.
