A short message on a day that arrived two weeks into something nobody was ready for.

There will be no flowers on the pavements today, and this is not a year for a cheerful message.

So I will keep it to what can be said honestly.

Right now women are driving buses out of cities, running pharmacies with the shutters half down, holding children on trains for eighteen hours, cooking for a hundred people in a school kitchen, and organising almost everything I see being organised.

Others are doing it from another country, in a room they were given last week, doing the arithmetic for a household that is now in three places.

To all of them today: I see it, and so does everyone else here. Take care of yourselves.
