A great many households here are now run by one person doing the work of two, and have been for several years. That is not a figure of speech; it is a schedule, and everyone reading this knows whose it is.

Alongside that: the businesses kept open, the classes taught, the wards staffed, the volunteer logistics organised out of somebody's kitchen and delivered on time.

Flowers are a small thing to offer against that. They are offered anyway, along with an accurate account of what is actually being carried.
