Easter, 23 April 2006
An Easter greeting from my second spring here, and the thing about the basket I had misunderstood.
Christ is risen. A blessed Easter to everyone marking it today.
I had assumed the basket was a donation — food brought to the church and given away. It is not. It is your own food, blessed and then taken home and eaten, and the blessing is the point of the journey rather than the handing over.
Once I understood that, the queue outside the church made a different kind of sense. Nobody is giving anything up. Everybody is having their table approved before they sit at it.
A good table to your family, and a warm afternoon after an early morning.
