An Easter greeting for a difficult spring, kept to the morning itself.
Christ is risen. To everyone marking Easter today, a blessed morning.
This is a hard spring and I am not going to write around that. But Easter has a shape that does not bend to circumstance, and I think that is the point of it.
The baskets were still packed last night. The paska still came out of the oven at an unreasonable hour. Somebody still stood outside the church at dawn holding a candle in a paper cup against the wind. The greeting was still answered the way it is always answered.
A holiday that carries on identically in a bad year is doing something that a holiday celebrated only in good years cannot do.
To your families, wherever they are this morning: peace, and a good table.
