Unity Day, 22 January 2026
A greeting for the anniversary, without further commentary.
Anniversaries about unity are always more complicated than the word suggests, in every country that keeps one. A day about coming together is usually kept by people who remember perfectly well how hard it was.
That is not a weakness in the holiday. It is what gives it content, and a country that marked only its uncomplicated moments would have a very short calendar.
I am a guest here and will offer nothing beyond the greeting itself.
Congratulations on Unity Day.
