International Women's Day 2021
A greeting in a year when flowers were bought with a mask on and delivered at arm's length.
A greeting on the eighth of March.
An awkward year for a day built around handing something to somebody. Offices were half empty, the flower sellers were still on the corners but everyone was masked, and a good deal of the day happened by delivery and video call.
What did not change is the substance. The colleagues who held companies together through a pandemic year of remote work, improvised childcare and constant uncertainty were, in my experience, disproportionately the same people who hold them together in ordinary years.
The bouquet arrived by courier that year. The thanks are the same as always and rather more emphatic.
A good day to you all.
