What changed between the two openings
The first showing was an emergency arrangement, negotiated quickly. The second was a plan. Between them, the practical questions had been answered once and did not need answering again: insurance for works from a country at war, transport routes, condition reporting, who carries liability if a crate is damaged in transit.
Those answers are now precedent. That is what institutions build, and it is worth more than any single exhibition.
The wider network by 2024
Digitisation projects that began as volunteer improvisation had become properly run archives. Conservation supplies reached regional museums, not only the national ones in Kyiv and Lviv. Training for Ukrainian conservators was running abroad.
The honest note
None of this replaces what has been destroyed, and a great deal has been. But protection at this scale is not a gesture; it is infrastructure, and infrastructure is what survives.
